Brownwood es una pequeña ciudad en Texas, casi un pueblo, donde todo el mundo se conoce, los vecinos se ayudan, se apoyan en los momentos duros y van juntos a la iglesia. Y, sobre todo, como buenos tejanos, todos disfrutan del fútbol americano, apoyando al equipo del instituto local. Pero avanzada la II Guerra Mundial, la muerte del entrenador y la ausencia de un sustituto adecuado provocan que se decida cancelar la temporada. Intentando evitar esto, sobre todo para evitar que los jugadores se alisten antes de tiempo, la profesora Tylene Wilson se ofrece voluntaria. En un mundo dominado por hombres, su oferta la convierte en blanco de burlas e insultos, y lo que parecía un pueblo unido y amigable, se convierte en un hervidero de críticas y cotilleos. 

Para un reto de lectura tenía que buscar un libro sobre fútbol, y enredando por internet, di con este libro. Basado en la historia real de Tylene Wilson, la primera mujer entrenadora de fútbol en Texas. Contado en primera persona, cuenta como se enfrentó al rechazo de la comunidad, de los mismos vecinos y amigos que hasta entonces estaban encantados con ella. Su valor y su fortaleza le ganaron el respeto de los vecinos, los jugadores y resto de entrenadores.

Ha sido una lectura entretenida, interesante, aunque me choca la edad de algunas personas para tener hijos ya en edad de alistarse ¿A qué edad se casaron?
